Why are Tolkien's Elves tall?

キリスト教が浸透する以前の北部ヨーロッパには、神よりは劣るが絶大な力と知恵を持ち、輝くほど美しいエルフがいたそうな（ノルウェーやケルトの伝説のTuatha Dé SanaanやSidhe等）
キリスト教が入ってきて人々は、人間と神のあいだにそのような存在がいたのを忘れてしまった。
